Preserving, Enriching, and Protecting Our Culture
Native American Organization in Southeastern Virginia
We are the descendants of the Kiskiack Chickahominy Tribe in southeastern Virginia. Our last known “Lands” were situated near the south bank of the York River on the Virginia Peninsula, which extended into the Chesapeake Bay. The present-day city of Yorktown developed a few miles east of here.
As a tribal organization, we strive to preserve, enrich, and protect our culture, language, rituals, customs, and crafts. We also strive to strengthen our ties with other Native American tribes and charitable organizations.
Furthermore, we aim to promote our Tribe’s general welfare and posterity and to secure to ourselves and our descendants the rights, powers, and privileges provided by law to exercise certain rights of self-governance consistent with United States federal, state, and local laws.
In addition, we endeavor to enlighten and enrich the general public’s understanding of the diversity and richness of Native American life while also educating the public about the history and contributions our Nation has made and continues to make to our society. We offer lessons to enlighten and train individuals on various subjects about the Tribe, including our origin and ancestry.
We have historians who teach our tribal history, craftsmen who show the beadwork process for the regalia, and professional dancers who demonstrate our native dances. Our efforts are concentrated on members coming into the Tribe, but we also visit schools and churches to share information about the Tribe.
Besides educational activities, we conduct outreach programs to provide food and clothing for those in need in our community.
